Make a Referral

Healthcare professionals, representatives from charitable partners and agencies can make a referral to the Doula Access Fund.

Doula Access Fund Doulas

Doula UK Access Fund Doulas have all completed approved Doula UK training, safeguarding training, mentoring, have a current DBS and are insured.

The Access Fund is formed of volunteer doulas and a volunteer administration team, it is overseen by the volunteer Directors and Leadership Team of Doula UK.

What support is offered if successful?

A doula provides continuous emotional and physical support and gives kind and respectful non-judgemental care. The aim is to empower and give confidence to the mother or parent to make the best, informed choices about how to care for their baby.

Doula UK Access Fund Doulas have all completed approved Doula UK training, safeguarding training, mentoring, have a current DBS and are insured.

Applications can be made for Birth or Postnatal doula support. The inclusion of these services is outlined below:

  • Birth Support – meeting antenatally with a Doula in person at least once, and having a doula support in person during labour and birth. It will also include one postnatal visit.

  • Postnatal Support – 20 hours of in person postnatal support.

Doulas have a wide network and can signpost new families to free services in their area such as baby groups.

Eligibility:

The Access Fund is available to those who are:

  • experiencing financial hardship (proof of receipt of benefits or no recourse to public funds will be required);

and fulfils one or more of the below criteria:

  • are a lone parent

  • are from a marginalised community

  • are homeless or living in temporary housing

Applicants who have additional complexities will be considered, but may be referred on to other specialised organisations to ensure they receive appropriate support.

Referral process and timescale

Referrals to the Access Fund can only be made by a healthcare professional (midwife, GP, social worker etc) or a representative from a charitable partner or agency.  We are unable to accept self referrals.

Make a referral

Healthcare professionals complete the online referral application for support from the Doula Access Fund on behalf of the mother or parent.

Decision

Doula UK will notify the referrer and the parent within 6-8 weeks of the application.

Doula Match

Accepted applicants will be provided with details of available doulas

Doula Support

The Access Fund doula will provide birth support or postnatal support depending on the support requested
